Baroque alto recorder in F after J. Denner in A:415 and A:440 Hz
The German maker Jacob Denner belongs to a famous 18th-century family of woodwind makers from Neurenberg. The Denner family were amongst the leading European woodwind makers, making recorders, flutes, oboes and clarinets. Many of their instrument shave been found in Neurenberg.
My Denner is based on the famous alto recorder in the Musikhistorik Museum in Kopenhagen. It is made of boxwood and is regarded as one of the most beautiful recorders left from the 18th century. The instrument is powerful, has a clear sound and works especially well in the top register.
Although the original instrument is made of boxwood, I find this recorder particularly suitable to make in hard woods like cocobolo, granadilla and coromandel (an ebony) and even in softer woods like plum. Each wood adds its own quality and because this instrument is so expressive, it actually works well in all the various woods.
