About woods

I love using a wide range of different woods for my instruments. In this way you can ‘customize’ the instrument of your choice to your personal taste and wishes. Not only is the instrument model itself a determining factor for the result, also the wood plays an important role in this matter. Besides, offering as many woods as possible fits within my general vision of creating as much flexibility as possible within the charming limits of the recorder.

Your choice of wood, besides being a matter of taste, depends also on your daily use of the instrument. They are not all equally stable in different environmental circumstances and climates. But above all I think the most important element in deciding what wood you choose is always how the instrument feels when you play it! Of course I will explain and advise you on this matter wherever needed!

I use the following European woods: boxwood, maple (or sycamore), cherry, plum, pear, olive and the following exotic woods: bubinga, castello (Zapatero or sometimes called Maracaibo or Brazilian boxwood as well), satin wood, coromandel (Makassar ebony), rosewoods (cocobolo, granadilla, Indian rosewood), pau amarelo (‘yellow wood’).

Whatever wood you choose: they are always first quality and carefully seasoned.
